The Kitchen Garden Program at Seaforth PS is aligned with the national Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Foundation which introduces pleasurable food education to children in order to form positive food habits for life.
The Kitchen Garden program sees students from K-5 working in the school’s garden growing fruit and vegetables, maintaining and then harvesting the produce. Students learn where the food they eat originates.
Students in Years 3-6 then take the harvested produce and use it in Kitchen classes to make delicious recipes. Dishes cooked reflect the vegetables, herbs and fruits grown, season-by-season, by the children in their organic school garden.
Both Garden and Kitchen lesson content is designed to be fully integrated into the curriculum to reinforce science, literacy, numeracy, cultural studies and all aspects of environmental sustainability
